Work is in progress on phase 1 of the Friendswood Regional Stormwater Detention Project. The project is a collaboration between Harris County Flood Control, City of Friendswood, Galveston County, and Galveston County Consolidated Drainage District. The 105 acre project is located south of FM 1959, west of Blackhawk, and on the east side of Clear Creek. Phase 2 is currently being designed with grading work to start 1st Q 2025. When completed in 4th Q 2026, the combined phase 1 & 2 detention volume will be approximately 700 to 900 acre feet depending on the treatment of wetlands within the project site. The detention volume will be used to mitigate conveyance projects in the lower Clear Creek watershed which is south of FM 1959.
