Update on Collaborative Efforts for Flood Mitigation

Dear Residents,

This week, at the Galveston County Consolidated Districts (GCCDD) office, we held our second meeting with the Institute for a Disaster Resilient Texas (IDRT) program from Texas A&M University.

Dr. Sam Brody and his exceptional team continue to lead the way in innovative flooding and mitigation solutions along the Texas Gulf Coast, as well as in many other areas of expertise. They are actively identifying the often-overlooked impacts of development on the growing flooding challenges faced by our region and others across the United States.

As we move forward with land development, it is crucial that we adopt innovative and effective strategies to address the deadly floods that threaten lives and cause financial hardship. This is especially important in areas that are prone to flooding and have limited drainage options. Dr. Brody and his team are true experts in this field, and their guidance has been invaluable to the GCCDD. We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr. Brody for dedicating his time to address the challenges faced by the GCCDD and the communities of Friendswood and League City. Together, we are working towards enhancing the quality of life for all residents and safeguarding what matters most to our citizens.

I encourage you to watch the recorded meeting from October 8th to learn more about Dr. Brody’s team at IDRT Texas A&M and their plans for collaboration with the GCCDD.

Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you around the district.

Best regards,

-- Rusty Burkett, GCCDD Board President
